Simple and Effective Vapour-Liquid Mass Transfer
Sieve Trays provide efficient vapour-liquid contact using a perforated tray deck containing a pattern of fixed openings. Vapour passes upward through these perforations and disperses into the liquid flowing across the tray, creating the intimate contact between the two phases required for mass transfer.
The hole size, open area, tray spacing, downcomer arrangement, and liquid depth can be selected to suit the hydraulic requirements of the column. With no moving valves or other active components on the tray deck, Sieve Trays offer a simple and robust solution for distillation, absorption, and stripping duties.
Their relatively open construction provides good vapour handling capacity with moderate pressure drop and makes inspection and maintenance straightforward. Sieve Trays are particularly suited to processes with reasonably stable operating rates, where the simplicity of a fixed-opening tray can provide an economical alternative to valve or bubble cap designs.
Sieve Trays can be supplied for new columns, tower revamps, or as replacement trays for existing equipment. Tray layouts can be manufactured to suit existing column dimensions, support arrangements, and process requirements.
