Secure Retention of Random Packing Beds
Random Packing Bed Limiters are installed above a packed bed to prevent random packing from becoming displaced during operation. They retain the packing within the designated bed depth while allowing gas and liquid to pass freely through the column.
During upset conditions, high vapour velocities or sudden changes in process flow can cause individual packing elements to lift, move, or become entrained from the bed. The Bed Limiter provides a physical restraint above the packing, helping maintain the integrity and position of the packed bed without unnecessarily compressing the packing.
The open-grid construction is designed to provide a high free area, minimising interference with vapour and liquid flow while ensuring that the openings are sufficiently small to retain the packing elements below.
Bed Limiters can be manufactured in sectional designs for installation through column manways and are typically supported from the column wall or existing internal support structure. The design can be adapted to suit different column diameters, packing sizes, operating conditions, and installation requirements.
