Flashing Feed Chamber

Flashing Feed Chambers provide a controlled area for partially vaporised feed streams to enter a process column, allowing the vapour and liquid phases to disengage while reducing feed momentum. They help protect surrounding internals, limit entrainment and turbulence, and direct each phase into the appropriate section of the column.

Controlled Introduction of Two-Phase Feed into Process Columns

Flashing Feed Chambers are used where a feed stream enters a column partially vaporised or flashes as a result of the pressure and temperature conditions at the feed point. The chamber provides a controlled space for the incoming vapour and liquid phases to disengage before being introduced into the column.

By containing the momentum of the incoming feed, the chamber helps prevent high-velocity vapour and liquid from directly impinging on trays, packing, distributors, or the column shell. The vapour phase is allowed to disengage and flow into the vapour space, while the liquid phase is collected and directed to the appropriate section of the column.

Effective management of the flashing feed is particularly important where high feed velocities or large vapour fractions could otherwise create localised turbulence, entrainment, maldistribution, or excessive mechanical loading on nearby internals.

Each Flashing Feed Chamber is designed to suit the feed nozzle arrangement, vapour and liquid flow rates, available column space, and surrounding internals. Chambers can be supplied for new columns, revamps, capacity upgrades, or replacement of existing feed devices.
