Controlled Inlet Flow and Primary Gas-Liquid Separation
Vane Inlet Devices are installed at the inlet of separators and process vessels to reduce the momentum of incoming multiphase streams and provide effective primary separation of gas and liquid.
As the feed enters the device, a series of vanes redirects the flow and creates changes in direction that encourage the denser liquid phase to separate from the gas. Separated liquid is directed towards the vessel liquid section, while the gas is distributed into the available vessel cross-section for further separation downstream.
By controlling the incoming flow, the Vane Inlet Device reduces high-velocity impingement and turbulence within the vessel. This helps minimise liquid re-entrainment and provides more stable flow conditions for downstream separation equipment such as mesh mist eliminators, vane packs, or cyclonic devices.
The relatively open construction makes vane inlet devices particularly suitable for applications involving significant liquid loading or where a robust inlet device with good drainage characteristics is required.
Each Vane Inlet Device can be designed to suit the inlet nozzle arrangement, gas and liquid flow rates, operating conditions, vessel geometry, and downstream separation equipment.
