Structural Support for Catalyst and Media Beds
Catalyst Support Grids form the structural foundation beneath catalyst, adsorbent, and support media beds in reactors and process vessels. Their primary function is to carry the bed load while maintaining sufficient open area for gas or liquid to pass through the vessel with minimal restriction.
The grid provides a stable support surface for the catalyst bed and can be designed to accommodate additional layers of support media or screening where required. The arrangement of beams, grid sections, and openings is selected to provide the necessary mechanical strength while maintaining effective process flow across the vessel cross-section.
In reactor service, Catalyst Support Grids may be subjected to substantial static loads, pressure differential, elevated temperatures, thermal expansion, and demanding process conditions. The support structure must therefore provide sufficient strength and stability without introducing unnecessary restriction beneath the catalyst bed.
For larger vessels, the grid can be manufactured in sections to allow installation through existing vessel manways. Sections are supported by the vessel support ring and, where required, additional beams or structural members can be incorporated to accommodate higher catalyst loads or larger vessel diameters.
Catalyst Support Grids can be supplied for new reactors, vessel revamps, catalyst system modifications, or as replacements for existing internals.
